Daryl Rush Class of June 2019 wrote this poem below after 1 of his sessions with me. (Please share )
Today is even more like yesterday
than today
much to my liking
At the end of yesterday's work
I was ready to just take a shower
and go to bed
just then I remembered my body
training session
oh my I race there just in time
it was a very hard session
I could barely walk back home
but then it actually feels so good
to feel residence in my body
in this forgotten way
I work and move daily
but not really like the child
I once was
that child moved with excitement
a discovering of what that
body could do
sort of test driving that body
always testing
all energy that body
discovering muscles
and bones
its world
I love life so much at times
of physical stress
the body worked
hard
all the other stresses just
dissolve into the cells they
came from
most likely neglected cells
long neglected cells
I then staggered to Oakland's
wonderful Morcum Rose
garden
a magnificent elderly woman
and her care taker
were benched in evening
sun
sublime
I asked if they would share
their bench with a weary walker
sat and talked for a moment
congenial
fell into a comfortable deep sleep
woke with sun gone
bench mates
gone
day gone
laughter
wandered on
toward home
conversation with
neighbors along the way
fell into rocking chair
slept alone this time
laughing now.
then attempted to finish
a Nf movie
mistake
that mistake
somehow crept
into my night's sleep
maybe those cells
those cells deferred
their demeaning
caused them to differ
differ this night sleep
the shared bench sleep
much better.
