Aurora and Michelle are best friends who do everything together. Going to movies, restaurants, on trips. It's been that way since college and have kept in touch since jobs, marriages and kids. But like all things "other things take importance". When it came time for Aurora and Michael to make " me time" for themselves they decided to make an effort to exercising together 4 x a week. While it worked for a few weeks over time Aurora started to added running in on time that Michelle couldn't. Then Aurora who played soccer in college joined a co-ed team and was adding another 2 days of activity to her weekly routine. Meanwhile, Michelle tried running but got discouraged " as she put it "I'm not a runner" .She didn't really play sports, some recreational stuff. But nothing serious. As Aurora get " more involved" Michelle got "less involved". After awhile things changed between them........
Sound familiar? What I'm illustrating here is the difference in the ways people can approach incorporating exercise into their daily, weekly and monthly life.
Whys does one person stay the course and the another verve's off track?
It may come down to that dreaded of daily challenges: Managing Stress!!
Stress is the #1 cause of exercise falling by the wayside. The ability to manage daily activities and the stresses that it takes on a person. Makes it ever so much more challenging. If your experiencing:
the likely hood of you becoming consistent in a structured fitness program reduces significantly.
What are some simple actions that you can implement now to get a handle on these stresses and make steps that can help you reach your goals.
Anticipate Problems: If you have a calendar or one on your phone . Get in the habit of planning out your week and if you have the foresight planning our your month. Knowing what is coming is exactly that! KNOWING what is happening in your life. So that things don't spring up on you and throw you for a loop.
Solve these Problems: Once your schedule is established. You'll now have the "flexibility" of knowing where the open spots are in your schedule to focus or catch up on something that needs doing. But mainly as we are discussing EXERCISE it allows you to "solve" this most immediate problem. Where can I fit in fitness?
Create a plan: Now that you have anticipated potential problems by having a structured schedule. You have "solved" where are the gaps in your schedule. You can now "create" a schedule or plan to address where you can most likely have the time to carve out a consistent schedule to exercise.
Remember that fitness can be as little as 15 minutes ( depending upon what activity you are preforming ) so having 30 - 40 minutes at least 3 x week can make a world of difference and help you to:
- Feel Optimistic
- Be Happy
- Feel like your doing something
- Have positive thoughts
- Feel rejuvenated!
