Using Breathing to Control Stress

In our last Blog post we discribed ways to relief stress by:

 

  • Being Active
  • Creating Quite spaces
  • Getting an adequate amount of sleep
  • Having more social connections

 

Another tool in the arsenal would be to learn proper breathing techniques. A simple way to perform breathing is to:

 

  1. Breathe in through your nose and count to four as you do so. Focus on inhaling as deep as possible filling your lungs
  2. Hold your breathe of filled oxygen for 4 seconds
  3. BREATHE out slowly through your mouth ( pursed lips ) for 4 seconds
  4. Upon EXPIRATION hold your breath for 4 seconds
  5. REPEAT these steps until you feel a relaxed sensation throughout your body and then you will become more centered and relaxed and be able to manage your day more efficiently

This is one of  # of methods out there to help you be more efficient at using oxygen, which can help you become more relaxed and and less stressed.
