Is drinking water the only way to stay hydrated?

We all know that we need to keep our bodies well hydrated in order to maintain optimum health. The gold standard is to drink (8-12) fl oz of water per day, which seems simple, but is often a daunting task for many people. Maybe you forget to bring water with you when you walk or work out, or you simply don’t enjoy the taste (or the thought) of the public water fountain; whatever your water quota challenge, there is a simple way to make sure you achieve success.

One easy way to increase your water intake is to make the mental switch from believing that forcing yourself to stoically drink glass after glass of water is the only way to get your 8 - 12 glasses of water per day. There a plenty of foods that you can add to your diet to help you stay hydrated if you don't have access to liquids.

Check out the images below to discover the many natural foods that have a high water content. These foods, in combination with chugging those cups or bottles of water, will go a long way towards helping you hit that “8 glasses a day” target.

It's best to consume the vegetables in their raw state. Cooking can reduce the water content. So next time you’re out, hit the farmers market, invest in some delicious seasonal fruit and vegetables and check off “drink enough water” from today’s to-do list!   Note: Eight glasses a day is a baseline; if it's hot out, or if you are working out, nursing or suffering from illness you should drink more than this.
